London, UK: The Gate, Seymour Place

The London veggie and vegan scene has a new fabulous addition! The third branch of the successful Gate Restaurants opens its gates (pardon the pun) today in Marble Arch, London!

I was invited to their launch yesterday and had the privilege to have a first look and taste some of their dishes. Today they officially opened to the public, so make sure you check it out as well! They are less than 5 minutes away from Marble Arch station, so very central and easy to get to.

I'm a big fan of their dishes! I think roughly half of them are vegetarian and half vegan. They are very well executed without being pretentious. They pride themselves in using seasonal ingredients and the flavours are refined without overpowering. I tried quite a few dishes yesterday and one of the winners for me was the Thai green curry. Instead of it being very strong and spicy it had a surprising almost soft but self confident taste. It's hard to describe but I was really taken aback by it. Especially since I would normally think of Thai green curry as something more basic rather than refined. And the mushroom canapés were to die for. Not sure if they will make it on the menu but I hope they made a proper dish out of them. Find out for yourself and then let me know!

The interior exudes an understated elegance, functional but comfortable. They have two floors, there are table on the ground floor and then also in the basement where there is a huge selection of wines on offer.

I wish them good luck and will definitely pop by soon to check out the menu. As they are using seasonal ingredients the menu is often changing so there is always plenty to explore!

The nice back-lit wine wall can be seen when taking the stairs to the basement.

If the canapés are anything to go by (and I am pretty sure they are having visited the Hammersmith branch a few times) the the menu will be amazing!

Downstairs there is more seating and definitely a lot of wine temptation!

The canapés weren't just presented beautifully but tasted amazing!

Typical Gate colours, black and dark wood combined with lovely moss green benches.

The mushroom risotto (normally boring and poorly executed by your average high-street restaurant) was another beautiful dish we had at the launch.

The Thai Green curry, the hero of the evening for me!

Let me know what your favourite dish is when you go. Enjoy!

Enjoy!
